Another Owie!

Poor Smokey. On Wednesday he was running around in the snow, but by now it has gotten much more compact instead of the usual powder, and he ended up breaking a nail. He didn't let me take a good look, but I knew we had to head in to see Dr. Barr.
Turns out he did a great job at breaking the nail all the way down to the little bone. They trimmed it up and wrapped a bootie on him. He's on antibiotics and pain meds. We go in next week to get the bandage changed. I'm guessing it will take at least 3/4 weeks to heal.
He really hates it when I put on the outdoor bootie to prevent it from getting wet outside. He hops on three legs all over the place and will not put pressure on the foot. I know it it not pain, I think it is because he feels weird with the bandage on. No walks for a long time.

Poor Smokey, not the best way to ring in the New Year.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Grunting Dog

Hello dear fans!

I got a grunting long doggie for a Christmas present! This was my first Christmas and I can't wait to have more in my forever home.
Foster Mama took a video of me opening up my prezzie.
Hope you all enjoyed your Christmas!

Elf

In the spirit of the Christmas season I had to dress Smokey up as an Elf. I let Lucy out during the short photo shoot with Smokey and all he wanted to do was play and run!

He was squirming around too much for the hat to stay on correctly, but he is still a cute Elf!

And here are the outtakes:

8 Weeks

Smokey is doing really well. His owie is almost completely healed.
He has not worn a belly band or marked in the house in a month, yay! He's super easy once he realized what was expected of him.
Smokey puts a huge smile on my face everyday. He loves to play, loves to have a full body scratch, and eats like a champ. He is such a sweetie, giving me kisses throughout the day :)
He tries to entice Leroy and Lucy to play all the time. He enjoys car rides and we still take a short walk even in this cold weather! It takes me longer to bundle them all up than our walk, lol.
Being just 2 years old, Smokey has some energy to burn, so he likes to zoom a few laps around the yard in the powder.
Smokey is a dream in his kennel, not a single peep. He also sleeps all the night through like a good boy.
The only thing I am still working with him is getting him used to me trimming his nails.

Smokey has such a sweet face <3

I Look Like a Hobo!

Hello readers,
Smokey here doing a post about my owie.
A couple days ago we were all playing fetch in the house, and Leroy (who hardly plays now because he is an old fart) decided to play and pounced on me, giving me a one inch gash and I cried and ran away to the bedroom.
Foster Mom thought Leroy only stepped on my foot really hard, but when she called me to her and checked me over, she gasped at the owie! Things like that make her squeamish. She went through so many different ways of bandaging my side up but nothing worked, so I now have to wear a T-Shirt (cut to fit my handsome physique),donated by Foster Dad, to keep it clean and me from licking it. Hmmmph. I am forced to have it cleaned daily too! I look like a Hobo in the shirt and Foster Mom says I will probably have to wear it for 2 weeks at least! She also said we won't go to the NLGA Holiday Boutique until it heals (so maybe Dec.18th).
I hope I get lots of Christmas prezzies to make up for this horror!

Play Style

Smokey loves to play with toys and he does it with his butt up in the air, play-bowing. It always makes me laugh to watch him play. FYI: NLGA prefers fosters to stay off of furniture, and we always follow that. Smokey is actually on a dog bed, yes, the dogs have a full sized bed of their own to use :)

Smokey is doing really well. I don't want to jinx us, but after putting him on a strict potty schedule we have not had any marking in the house. Woohoo! I love having him in the house, he is such a fun and good boy.

Puffs and Kisses

Smokey likes to check out what it cooking in the kitchen. He likes to puff his lips and inhale the lovely aromas, probably wishes he could have some too :)

Smokey likes to give kisses! When he is laying down on his bed, I rub and massage him all over and in return he'll lick my hands and kiss my face as if saying: "thanks, I like that!"

Smokey is a very good boy; he loves to play, itch his back all the time, great on walks, loves car rides, has no food or space aggression, gets along with the weims, and kennels without a peep (he has no separation anxiety at all, even when I take the weims out to the dog park and he's all alone).
The only issue we have is marking. Most greyhounds come house trained, but Smokey still has to learn it is a no-no. He wears a belly band and I am praising him when he goes outside. Hopefully, he'll catch on soon.

Yard Zooms

Smokey has been with us 3 weeks. He has become happier and even more playful. He will wag his tail when I talk to him and he LOVES butt/back scratches and will come back for more and more.
Smokey enjoys zooming around daily. He especially likes to do it with a toy. This was recorded a few days ago when we had sunshine and 65 degrees, unlike this weekend.

Back Scratch

Smokey is a young playful boy. We like to sunbathe outside and he loves to scratch his back on the grass. He is adorable and so silly! Here is the vid and some pics.

Curly Tail

Smokey is settling in very well. He is an easy going boy and very young (just turned 2 last month) so I'm hoping his playful crazy side will come out :)

After the first day he already loves hanging out with us in the same room. He sleeps through the whole night without a single peep until we wake up. He kennels very well, not a peep from their either. He has good potty habits but has marked in the house a couple times. I'm sure the marking will go away very quickly.
He is a dream on walks. But he is a squirrel hunter and is constantly on the lookout, ready to take off if he spots one.

He still doesn't care for the stairs and will only do them when I make him. I'm sure he'll be running up and down them in a week or two. Smokey can rest his face on top of the kitchen counter if he wants to, but he is such a good boy that the thought of counter surfing never crosses his mind.

He has accepted teeth brushing very well, but doesn't like his ears cleaned or his toes touched. I'll try the nail dremmel when he settles in a little more.
Smokey is very cool on van rides and settles in for a nice nap quickly.

He is my tallest foster but has the shortest tail, and I love the little curl he has. It is very cute and I love how he wags it while doing the downward dog and playing with toys.

Welcome Smokey!

I just picked up Smokey today. He is a beautiful, very tall, brindle boy. Smokey did great on the ride home. He's not shy but thus far has preferred to be with the weims or in the kennel or other rooms instead of hanging with Hubby and I. This is fine since I like to give new fosters space the first few days so they don't feel too overwhelmed with the huge change. He does not seem afraid at all, exploring the house and yard just fine. He seems to really like the weims because he wags his cute tail every time he approaches either one. He has excellent leash manners and takes a long time to eat. He also has very loose stool at the moment, hopefully the pumpkin will help firm things up.

The cutest thing about Smokey is he loves toys! His head was in the toy basket all day long, taking everything out and playing with most of them. His favorite is the cuz. I will be updating the blog 1-2 times a week.
I forgot to charge my camera battery so I only got a few shots of Smokey.
